ABOUT ANNA NIKBAKHT NOOSHIN
Co-owner of Overdose.am and NSMBL.nl , blogger and fashion enthusiast. When describing yourself it’s always hard to stick to the essential basic information. I could say that I’m a fashion junkie at hart, a business woman to be, a hopeless romantic in between, but above all: I think I’d describe myself as a writer.
I’ve traveled the world to come to realize that I have the privilege to live in one of best cities this planet has to offer: Amsterdam. So for the coming weeks, I will take you on a mental and written journey and tour of the places to be in ‘my’ Amsterdam. With a fashionable twist added to the equation of course.
Angelic versus Raw: Ilja Visser combines the best of both worlds
I’m sure you’ve heard about her by now: she’s not one to miss in the Dutch fashion industry. Ilja Visser has managed to keep up with the hectic world of big names and designers, turning her creations into lovely must haves for each and every budget.
This week, she presented us with not one, but two amazing fashion shows, all bringing together her beautiful vision of clothing. Her Couture AW11/12 collection, named Pluche, was dedicated to the world of politicians and formalities. Presenting daily routines in a whole new dimension, we wouldn’t mind having the huge black dress of crazy fur wrapped around our shoulders. Her Ready to Fish collection, called Desolation, was based on the movie Paris, Texas, making it look angelic, sweet and tough at the same time.
It makes me gain faith in fashion when it comes to a time where it’s quite hard to stay original. Besides: how cool is it that one woman managed to create this empire all by herself? I’d say it’s pretty darn cool.
The wonderful world of Nummer 9
It does not happen very often that stores in Amsterdam give you the feeling of international allure and service. However, when you look hard enough, there are a few gems out there that know exactly what the modern customer is looking for. Behold Nummer 9: a store in the center of Amsterdam with a selection of the most amazing young brands, excellent service and an interior that made me feel like I was in a high end New York boutique all over again. Nummer 9 is everything a boutique should be: genuine, unpretentious, to the point and ready to make you succeed. The fact that the owner is only 25 and really knows what she’s talking about makes the whole shopping experience even better. You won’t understand my enthusiasm until you’ve actually paid a visit to the store, so my advice would be just that. Afterwards we can talk and gush about the brands together!
Where online meets offline: A private ‘Collector’ Salon
As women of the world, we are often way too busy multitasking our way through every day life. That’s why my shopping activities usually take place online. This all changed a bit when I visited the new private salon of The Collector, opened just recently in the center of Amsterdam. This little gem is a live translation of the luxury web store thecollector.com. The lovely and ambitious owner, Suzette van Dam, is an incredibly inspirational example of a power woman who has it all: beauty, brains and a smart entrepreneurial eye. You can always set up an appointment to view the gorgeous exclusive collection, chat a bit with Suzette and spice up your wardrobe with brands such as Elizabeth and James, Anya Hindmarch and Anecdote. Definitely worth a visit if your in town!
