Next week Amsterdam is all about wool during the first Dutch ‘Wool Week’. For five days (from 5 – 11 November 2012), consumers will be informed about the versatility and special properties of the natural material. This cross-industry initiative of the Woolmark company is supported by HRH The Prince of Wales, Vivienne Westwood and Paul Smith.

The versatility is also reflected in the program itself. A few high-lights:

21 wool masters
Designers, Dutch alumni and Women of Wool will be showing their designs in the beautiful rooms of Hotel Droog, in an exhibition curated by Frans Ankoné and Martijn Nekoui. A number of designers are Modefabriek exhibitors, Bas Kosters, Jan Jansen, YOUASME MEASYOU, Conny Groenewegen and AMFI alumnus Yvonne Kwok.

Wool Up Your Life
‘de Bijenkorf’ focusses on wool together with several Dutch fashion brands on a spectacular parade on the 6th of November.

Wool is Home
Interior designer Edward van Vliet creates a special wool installation for the window of interior shop Edha, with furniture of Design on Stock and fabrics by Kvadrat. Opening 6th of November at 17:00.

Sam in the Bieb
Especially for children the ‘Openbare bibliotheek’ gives an introduction to wool on the 7th of November from 12.30-15.30. They can bring their woollen sweater or hat to have it repaired with Woolfiller ©. The theme is based on the story of Sam, an Australian lamb whose parents taught him how important the lamb’s fleece is.

Wool de Bonneterie
During this closing event in department store ‘Maison de Bonneterie’, three young artists Eva Bartels, Merijn Kavelaar and Michel Willemsen, who will be working live on their artistic expressions of ‘the sheep’. In Amsterdam, as well as in The Hague, you can see woollen outfits of designers Borre Akkersdijk, Jef Montes, Monika Lovas, Sladjana Pengic, Peet Dullaert and Individuals by Amfi.

SPR Wool
Concept store SPRMRKT on Rozengracht organises an exclusive catwalk show, with woollen items from the A/W 12/13 collections. This is an exclusive bloggers event (Invitation only).
