FACES

This summer edition of Retail Future Home at Modefabriek, STUDIO by judith ter haar invites inspiring designers, professionals and makers from a range of fields to come together and celebrate new visions on the life cycle of retail and products. We proudly introduce the faces behind Retail Future Home.

DÉSIRÉE HAMMEN

Désirée Hammen (1976) graduated at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts in Arnhem. In 2012 she finished her training at the famous École Lesage in Paris. She now works as a visual artist and haute couture embroidery master. Desirée’s current work consists of autonomous embroideries, free-knit cardigans and art-installations. In her work Désirée is combining haute couture techniques with her own DIY skills, exploring the beauty of imperfection. Her work is being described as ‘poetic, chaotic, intense and playful’. Over the last years Désirée participated in exhibitions in Amsterdam, Istanbul, New York, Shanghai and Beijing.

During Retail Future Home at Modefabriek, Désirée Hammen will direct masterclasses, titled ‘La Inventivité’ in which selected participants will work with her on a new body of work. Désirée: “The worlds of craftsmanship and art are often seen as contrary. In these masterclasses I will guide the participants towards making a natural and exciting new work, mixing up haute couture and visual arts”.
