In SPOTLIGHT, we take a closer look at shops, their brands and buying behavior. This week: Damage Playground, Rotterdam.

Customer: Diverse, as her surroundings, from hipster to rasta. Diverse as her online reach, from San Francisco to Tokyo.

Do you do something ‘extra’ in these (difficult) times? Nothing that specifically relates to these “difficult” times. This space is created to be multifunctional. Besides shop, it’s simultaneously a mini-gallery and a place for a variety of small-scale activities. Think of screenings, book presentations, lectures, music features, graduation projects, product-related activities etc.

How do you compose the collection? It’s a combination of different factors. For instance, we look at the people behind the brand, if they follow an independent path; as well as in good (visual) branding and lookbook as in secondary activities. The collection is selected by wearability and distinctiveness. We believe in the credo “Buy what your customer thinks he would never wear”. And avant-garde doesn’t exist, only in retrospect.
