PHOTO © PETER STIGTER Percy Irausquin ModefabriekModefabriek has commissioned Carlo Wijnands to highlight a designer with an exhibition in the new District C for international high-end and boutique style womenswear and premium menswear. The result of this partnership will be an ode to Aruban-Dutch designer Percy Irausquin, who died much too young. In 2001, just after graduating from the Gerrit Rietveld Academy, Percy won the prestigious Frans Molenaar Couture Award, which he then invested in a Master’s programme in Arnhem. During his brief career that followed, Percy created a furore with his un-Dutchlike glamourous red carpet dresses. In August 2008, on the day when his nomination for the Mercedes-Benz Dutch Fashion Awards was to be announced, Percy Irausquin died of a cerebral haemorrhage at the young age of 39. Carlo Wijnands once again let Percy’s talent shine, with a selection of fabulous dresses from private collections.
