And when it comes to our design process, we do the very same. Which is why we incorporated apple leather into a range of bags and sneakers for our autumn collection.

Fred de la Bretoniere is committed to sustainable enterprise. And this starts with showing respect for the environment and for everyone involved with our brands. From product development to transport, and from packing to factory working conditions. We scrutinise every single step of the process, focusing on precision and transparency for both retailers and end consumers. When designing our products, we are careful not to lose sight of traditional craftsmanship. We champion time-honoured cobbler and bag making traditions, using the finest materials to create singular designs. All of our materials are carefully selected, and our items are crafted with the keenest eye for every detail. This allows us to create timeless designs that last a lifetime.

Apple leather in the new FW21 collection

In line with our green aspirations, we are boosting the sustainability of our products. For our autumn collection, we’ve incorporated apple leather into several of our bags and sneakers. This innovative product is made from waste from apple processing (apple juice production, for example), and is a natural alternative to cow leather. The process of transforming the waste into the new raw material has been patented by Frumat, a company based in the apple-rich north of Italy. Inspired by the annual apple waste problem in the region and the ever-increasing demand for ecological leather alternatives, Frumat envisaged and designed this new type of leather.
